Well we made it to Denver in plenty of time for the Monday races. We arrived Friday night. We spent Saturday and Sunday just waiting to get into the track. They call it stacking, and they put you in a parking area off track until they're ready to move you up and into the pit area. Monday morning they started moving the racers into the pits. Everyone had received a number according to their arrival time to the track. We were number 71, so we were well ahead of the majority of racers. Denver is a mile high and the air is thin. It's not the best for racing, but you can work around the lack of air with some tuning. We ran two runs on Monday for test and tune. It cost us $50 to make those runs. On Tuesday we paid $35 and got one time trial and then ran eliminations in an index race. We went out first round, so it cost us $35 for two runs. We were just trying to get the car to run in the thin air. The car would stubble badly off the line and then go like gang busters after it got about 100-150 feet off the line. You can't win races like that. Wednesday we were to race the Mile High Shootout, but it rained all day. On Thursday, the first actual day of the Western Conference Finals (WCF) we got two time trials. We had pre-paid $85 for the entry fee, and another $50 for me, the crew chief. They also decided to run the cancelled Mile High Shootout for racers 13-17. That was another $35 and the WCF time trials counted as the time trials for the shootout. Tuesday night we thought we had figured out the tune-up we needed, and apparently we did. In our first time trial on Thursday, Jordan cut a perfect light and ran 7.859 @ 79.95 mph. That was with him shutting the car down 50 feet before the finish. He still was too quick as he's only allowed to run 7.90 seconds. We were elated. The car was running clean and now we could work with it. Second time trial I dropped the idle down a 100 rpm and Jordan cuts a .014 light and runs 7.856 @ 81.50 seconds. Apparently he shut off at maybe 45 feet before the finish, but who knows. Jordan received a prestigious pin for his perfect light and was now a member of the track's perfect light club. We immediately went into eliminations for the Mile High Shootout. Jordan dialed the limit 7.90 elapsed time. He shut the car down a little too late and broke out running a 7.865 on our 7.90 second dial and lost. He scrubbed off some time as evidenced by his 76.74 mph speed, but it wasn't enough. On Friday, the WCF only gives you one time trial. I added 23#'s to the car and had Jordan shut off 50 feet before the finish. He ran 7.933 @ 80.17 mph. This gave us something to work with. First round comes and we dial 7.90 to our opponent's 8.17. Our opponent cut a perfect light and ran 8.244 on her 8.17 second dial. Jordan ran 7.925 @ 81.08 mph on our 7.90 second dial. Because of her perfect light, she took the win and put us in the trailer. Jordan said he gave her too much at the stripe. He could have ran the car a little further without breaking out and possibly have taken the win. Well it's a great event and we had a good time, and that's the main thing. Maybe next year we'll do better. At least now we have a tune-up for this car at altitude. BTW, this is our new car we were running and we're still figuring out what it likes. They only run the first round of eliminations on Friday and they complete the race on Saturday. July 10th we left for home. Thanks for listening and keep the shinny side up.

Rick (Crew Chief for The Enforcer)
