Pulled away from a stop light last nite and gave it a light romp and all of a sudden
pop pOP BANG !!!!I thought maybe I had swallowed a valve so after coasting to a stop on the shoulder I pulled the valve covers - not the problem - all the top end was still there. Next I found I could not get spark on nbr 1 and pulled the distributor cap to find the rotor not turning when rolling the motor over.
I should have swapped this bronze gear out before this - I knew it was probably getting due for some attention. The cam flattened the worn bronze distributor gear splines. Rob, like you said, I may go with a composite gear this time. These bronze distributor gear may be easy on a billet cam gear but they sure don't last very long. I'm betting this would have happened at the track had I made just one more run at Fontana.
